As we are into the first quarter of the year, it’s good to revisit some of the funding opportunities that exist for shelters and rescues. Some of these resources might be well known to your organization and some may be new. We encourage you to check out what’s available!
Animal Welfare Grants
- ASPCA – A program through this organization helps shelters in New York (not including NYC), with animal population control. There are no deadlines for this program.
- The Banfield Foundation – This organization provides a wide variety of grants for those working to provide veterinary care, shelter, and disaster relief to pets in need. They have veterinary and medical equipment grants, disaster relief grants (not related to Covid-19), and community care grants to help with mobile or pop-up medical clinics for low-income pet owners.
- Bissell Pet Foundation – This foundation helps shelters with adoptions, spay/neuter efforts, and microchipping. The application for these grants will open in the spring, so check back soon!
- Cold Noses Foundation – This foundation provides grants to projects related to “humane treatment of animals, finding homes and non-lethal alternatives to euthanasia, veterinary care for needy families or organizations, and humane education.” Applications open up for this foundation from March 1- April 30.
- Doris Day Animal Foundation – Helping out senior companion animals with veterinary care, food, and adoption is the primary focus of this foundation. Organizations who are interested in applying for grants (up to $5000) should send a letter of introduction in one of the four quarters of the year (January, April, July, and October). - The Petco Foundation – Petco applications for animal welfare organizations open up July 1- August 31. Mark your calendars to apply for this, and be sure to register as a Petco Foundation Partner before you apply.
